Fly Through The Rainforest In Saint Lucia

Ziplining and Conservation in the Rainforest

Soft adventure is what the professionals call it, but believe me when you're standing on a wooden platform in the branches of a tall tree, attached to a sturdy cable and wearing a proper helmet, it sure feels hard! Ziplining has all the ingredients for an adrenaline rush like no other, especially when the location is the canopy of a rainforest reserve like Chassin, Babonneau, high in the hills of Saint Lucia's bucolic northern countryside.

Just an hour's drive from Marigot Bay Resort and Marina, you can climb into the harness, strap on your caribiners and step off the nearest platform in full confidence that you're 'riding' with the professionals. Rainforest Adventures is an international company originating in Costa Rica, that creates "unique and memorable experiences that inspire a sustainable use of the environment and an appreciation of the local culture while positively impacting our communities."

Guests can choose their adventure, from thrill-seeking along a zip line high on the stoic trunks of ancient rainforest sentries and medium to intense hiking along the hand-cut nature trails, to silently soaring up and away in a cable car through the upper forest canopy. At Marigot Bay Resort and Marina, a trip to the rainforest is among our guests' favourite excursions during their vacation to Saint Lucia.

The Rainforest Adventures park is a sustainably designed, conservation-focused area which has been sharing the flora and fauna secrets of the island for fifteen years. Whether ziplining, hiking or riding the gondolas, the sights, sounds and smells of the forest are the stars of the experience, along with the knowledgeable and friendly local villagers who work as nature guides. Bringing employment to the surrounding area is another sustainable goal of the company.

Listen to the birdsong as you peer into the swaying tops of mahogany trees and giant ferns, look for the fluttering flash of colours signalling the flight of Saint Lucia's indigenous parrot, Amazona Versicolor, and keep eyes peeled for the ancient magnolia trees and their gigantic white blossoms. Your Rainforest Adventures guide will provide a fascinating commentary of this ancient, mystic forest every step of the way.

Five Saint Lucian Rainforest Dwellers

The St. Lucia Warbler and St. Lucia Oriole are two other indigenous bird species which can only be seen when visiting the island, as they are not found anywhere else in the world!

'Mongoose' is the name for a large number of small, carnivorous mammals of the civet family, originally from Asia and Africa, which were brought to the Virgin Islands in the 1800’s as a method for controlling rat populations on sugar plantations. The mongoose adapted very well and are now common throughout the Caribbean.

'Agouti' (pronounced 'ah GOO tee') is a rain forest rodent that looks a bit like a really large guinea pig. Its coarse hair is covered with an oily (and stinky!) substance that acts like a raincoat.

'Manicou' or common opossum is a nocturnal forest-dweller, but you might just get lucky!

Excursions to Rainforest Adventures are perfect for the entire family, whether adventuresome or not, can be booked by the Personal Assistants' team during your next luxury vacation at Marigot Bay Resort and Marina.
