Chef Klent Receives Director’s Award
And the Director of Operations Award goes to...
Executive Sous Chef Klent Abel was “surprised and very happy” to become the recipient of the Director of Operations’ Award at the 2019 Marigot Bay Resort and Marina Staff Awards on March 8, 2020, which included a crystal trophy and an all expenses paid trip to an ultra luxury 5 star resort in Antigua.
In his sixth year at the independent five-star luxury resort, this hardworking and dedicated chef has made his mark on the menus for all four of its restaurants in the past year, leading the kitchen team by example and delving into his Saint Lucian roots to share our local cuisine with visitors to the island.
Director of Operations at Marigot Bay Resort and Marina, Perle Flavien, explained why Chef Klent was selected as recipient for the prestigious award, which goes to the manager that has shown the highest levels of dedication, anticipation and execution.
“Klent is so deserving of this award from a personal perspective as well as for the performance of his department. He is by far the most humble leader I have ever come across, a man of few words who works with his team to get the job done, and never takes the credit. The culinary team has maximum respect for Chef Klent, because he is a very hard-working, empathetic leader and amazing team player, who is not afraid to get his hands dirty.”
As popular with staff as he is with guests, Chef Klent admitted “I was very happy to receive this recognition for all the hard work, especially in the past year when we have made so many changes to the culinary concept of the resort.”
He is quick to share the credit with the kitchen team, who in turn, share his desire to be the best in Saint Lucia and further afield: Several of Marigot Bay Resort and Marina’s chefs have won awards at Caribbean regional competitions in the past year.
“I want to thank the Director of Operations for believing in our team. They feel appreciated for all their efforts, which motivates them to put their best foot forward every time,” said the award-winner whose team also walked away with the award for ‘Team of the Year.’
Chef Klent plans to keep raising the culinary bar at Marigot Bay Resort and Marina, and is confident that his team will keep on the path of progress under the leadership of Director of Culinary, Food and Beverage, Daniel Echasseriau, who has been at the helm since late 2019.
According to Daniel: “This is a very special and well-deserved prize for Chef Klent as well as the entire team. I expect a lot this year from the department, and we are currently on the right track by changing the concept through every menu we offer to our local and international guests. In 2020, we are focused on ‘Wellness’ as a theme and vision is to develop into the best culinary resort in Saint Lucia this year and in the years to come.”
